It is a gauge to determine the thickness of sheet metal or metal wire. This American Standard gauge measures sheet and wire using the Brown & Sharpe system with inch equivalents—in decimal form—on the reverse side (for gauges 0–36). The gauge is ideal for measuring sheet stock to a tolerance of plus .003" or minus .002". To use, insert wire or sheet into the gauge through the slots.
